Weight loss tip of the day: say no to alcohol!
Avoid alcohol when dieting. Alcohol is a liquid calory bomb, containing up to 7 calories per gram! It also can curb up your appetite (think on the aperitifs). Therefore, alcohol is a big no-no for everybody who wants to drop weight. Drink water, herb tea, or green tea instead - without sugar, of course!
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
An old (Russian?) proverb says: eat your breakfast yourself, share your lunch with a friend, and give your dinner to an enemy.
Your breakfast should make your day begin. Your breakfast should give you power to face the day. Your breakfast should make you move. Your breakfast should give you a feeling you're a winner! Want to be a winner? Follow me:-))
I found an interesting breakfast recepy paging an old Free Magazine from BBC Vegetarian Good Food (18-25 May, 1996) lately, and I'd like to share it with you.
Here we go: porridge, this time in a little bit different way.
Apple and Yoghurt Porridge
Preparation: 10 minutes, plus overnight soaking
Cooking: 5 minutes
Serves 2
150g/5 1/2oz rolled oats
225ml/8fl oz apple juice
4 tbsp Greek-style yoghurt
1 eating apple, chopped
1tbsp clear honey
1. In a large bowl, mix together the oats, apple juice and 400ml/14fl oz water. Cover and leave to soak overnight.
2. Transfer the mixture to a non-stick pan and cook gently for 4-5 minutes until thickened and smooth.
3. Spoon into bowls and top with the youghurt, apple and a drizzle of honey.
Per serving: 406 calories, Fibre 6g, Carbohydrate 75g, Fat 9g, Saturated fat 3g, Protein 11g, Added sugar 6g, Salt 0,12g.
What did you say? You're on diet? Too much calories etc? Perhaps you're right... but wait! Don't take 150g oats. Take 75g and use light yoghurt. Don't reduce the amount of honey, though. We're needing some sugar too, and natural honey is the best sugar available, ever! That's why consuming a tablespoon (or even 2, if you aren't overweight) of honey daily is recommended. Everybody who has been on diet at least once in his life knows how hard it can be sometimes not to buy... let's say: ten candy bars... and eat them all up in next three minutes... A tablespoon of honey daily prevents such accidents very effecively, and is much healthier too. I know, I'm speaking about my own experiences here!
